Wilson Land Surveying has been a symbol of high standards and professionalism in San Angelo and West Texas for almost 50 years. It was founded by Wm. C. Wilson, Jr. in 1957. Since then it has evolved from the days of transit and chain to state-of-the-art GPS technology. Over the past several decades the field crews, office technicians and registered surveyors including Wm. C. Wilson, Jr., Donald L. Williams, F.O. Langhor and Thomas J. Houston have surveyed nearly 2 million acres in West Texas. Wilson Land Surveying is also a leader in the oil and gas industry having surveyed hundreds of miles of easements and several thousand oil and gas locations including nearly 2000 locations in just the past 10 years.

Our normal job site lies within about 150 miles of San Angelo. This includes the 18 county area of West Texas including Coke, Concho, Crockett, Edwards, Glasscock, Irion, Kimble, Menard, Midland, Pecos, Reagan, Runnels, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, Tom Green, Upton and Val Verde counties. However, special projects extend all the way from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to the Texas panhandle and far West Texas.

Past projects range from small residential surveys to a $220,000,000 military project. These projects include lot surveys, subdivisions, ranch surveys, topographic surveys, route surveys, construction staking, boundary disputes, as-builts, easements, location staking and accident surveys. Projects in the San Angelo area include Bentwood, The Bluffs, Dove Creek and Lake Nasworthy subdivisions, construction staking at Goodfellow Air Force Base, area hospitals and numerous retail sites and boundary surveys for businesses and local governmental agencies.

Honesty and integrity have always been a high priority at Wilson Land Surveying. Much of our work is for repeat customers, some for over 30 years. Local residents and ranchers, developers, the Texas General Land Office, city, county and state agencies, large and small oil companies, attorneys and the courts have all relied upon our surveys. Additional evidence of this is visible within the surveying industry. Mr. Williams previously served as President of the Texas Surveyors Association (now the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors). Mr. Wilson served in many capacities within the Texas Surveyors Association, assisted in writing the Land Surveyors Practices Act and served on the Texas Board of Professional Surveying for many years. These high standards of service and excellence have set the standard for Wilson Land Surveying.

The current leadership of Wilson Land Surveying is under the direction of Thomas J. Houston. Mr. Houston received a bachelors degree in surveying in 1981 from Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan. He became a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in Texas in 1984, a Licensed Land Surveyor in Michigan in 1988 and a Texas Licensed State Land Surveyor in 1999. He currently is serving a second term on the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying Item Writing Committee. Our office technician and crew chief each have over 30 years of experience with our company.

Texas has two types of surveyors licensed to practice surveying. The first and standard type of license is the Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS). This license is obtained by examination and is required for almost every type of survey performed in Texas. The second and more specialized license is the Licensed State Land Surveyor (LSLS). This license is also obtained by examination and is required to survey boundaries which adjoin lands owned by the state including along rivers and the Gulf coast. This license is required to perform surveys for Patents, Vacancies, Deed of Acquittance or other surveys requiring to file information with the General Land Office. There are currently less than 80 Licensed State Land Surveyors in the state.

An area in which Wilson Land Surveying excels is boundary surveying. Researching, recovering and identifying old original survey corners from the 1800’s is critical for surveying ranches and staking oil and gas locations. This takes a thorough knowledge and understanding of the disposition of the Public Domain, the archives at the General Land Office, case law and years of experience by our office and field personnel. We are also experienced in consulting, litigation, depositions and preparing documents for court exhibits.

Wilson Land Surveying is conveniently located at 1514 W. Beauregard Ave in San Angelo, Texas with plenty of parking in the rear.
